Gary Johnson's Lake Fork Fishing Report |
![]() Submitted 10-5-08 The water temperature on Lake Fork is in the upper 70's to low 80's. As the water temperature continues to slowly drop, more and more bait fish will begin showing up in the shallows. There are already a great number of shad showing up in the shallows, therefore we have been concentrating on the shallow bite for most of our fishing. Most of our fishing has been around the grass from 12 feet of water to the bank. Our best baits for the early morning bite have been Spro frogs and chartreuse and white chatterbaits. Most of our strikes are occurring on the outside edge of the grass. When the sun hits the water we begin fishing watermelon Zoom flukes and tiki stiks fished in much the same areas. Once again we are concentrating on the outside edges of the grass. When you find an area which is holding fish, these fish will be there well into the day so be patient and rework the area. As the day progresses we will also throw a Rattlin Vibe by Yozuri in any of the chrome colors. We have caught fish up to 9 pounds using this bait by simply covering water and ripping the bait over the top of the underwater grass. Another pattern which has produced some nice fish is flipping the shallow grass with creature type baits rigged Texas style with a 1/2 ounce weight. We are concentrating on the pockets in the grass and the outside edge of the grass. The jig bite has been off for us this week but should pick up around timber in 4-10 feet of water. The 1/2 ounce Lake Fork Tackle jig rigged with a Killer Craw creature seems to work best. I hope these tips help you on your next trip to Lake Fork. I have some October dates still available so if you are looking for a professional guide trip and a great day on the water please give me a call at 214-205-0540. Until next
week, good luck and good fishing!! |
