Lake Fork Pro Guide Marc MitchellSubmitted: 6-1-10
June at Lake Fork can be the month that set's the summer patterns into play. Normally they start in May but the whole year has been a little behind and the very hot temperatures coming will accelerate it into the summer patterns. There are lots of way to catch the fish here in June and I will go over a few of them which are my favorites. This month I will be starting out some of my mornings with topwaters like yellow magic's, pop-r's and BPS walkers/Z-pops over and around grass early. Shad colors working best for most of the month but perch patterns will work where the perch are spawning. Now if you are after big bass then I like to start throwing a swimbait around the grass under the surface along main lake points and just come over the top and them let it drop off the edge. There are several ones that will work but here are a few I use. I like the 3:16 in a Rising sun and Bass Magic's as well as Bass Pro Shops swimming stick o which is weedless and comes through everything. Some days it will help you get bit if you just hit the grass just a little to disturb the area to get them to react to the bait or see/hear it. Now as we get on up into the heat of the day my favorite two baits are a 10-12 inch TX/rig worm and a DD-22 crank bait. Deep water will work but not always necessary. I still catch some big bass in less than 10 ft during the heat at times but one thing to always keep in mind is how close is the deeper water. If not to far off they will be some big bass there feeding at certain times. Now Carolina rigs will be good also but would be my third choice for big bass. Colors on plastics this month will be just about like always with watermelon red, watermelon, June bug, green pumpkin, black neon, being some of the best to use on soft plastics but others will work. On crank baits it is all about shad if you are fishing off shore till the perch finish spawning and they mover off the bank. When this happens the perch pattern crank baits will get after them. Last year it happened mid June but it maybe late June this year.

If you are wanting to learn more about summer time bass fish at Lake Fork I will be conducting a Bass Class on how to catch summertime Giants on Lake Fork. This will be at Bass Pro in Garland TX on June 6 th from 1-3 pm and the cost is $20 per person to attend. At the end of the class we will draw for a full day guide trip on Lake Fork with me. The topic's will be on how to catch/locate and the best baits, best depth's, setting a pattern, and some deep water secrets of my own that work and lots more. Hope to see you there !
